Parzenica Folk Art Coasters

These coasters are a great way to celebrate the Parzenica style of Polish Folk Art.  Made from hardboard with a cork backing, this set of six coasters is not only stylish, but also functional.

The Parzenica Folk art style uses a heart shaped pattern (or "parzenica") that is traditional of the handicraft decorative art of the Polish highlanders.  The design was originally made from string loops embroidered on the front of men's trousers to reinforce cuts in the cloth.  While the design started as three loops appliqued onto fabric, tailors began adding additional loops to use the design as decoration. Parzenica soon became a stand alone decorative style, typically seen in red or navy blue.
